Những người dân đang sống ở vùng ven biển phía đông ( bắt đầu từ Thượng Hải cho đến những Bắc Kinh, Quảng Đông) dường như đang có một cuộc sống ngày càng phát triển. Ở đây có thể nhìn thấy những hình ảnh giống như ở các nước phát triển. Tuy nhiên ngoài khu vực ven biển phía Đông thì những khu vực như Trung tâm và Tây Bắc có GDP tương đối thấp và kinh tế ở đây không phát triển lắm.
Cho đến nay, mặc dù hàng trăm triệu người đã thoát nghèo nhờ vào kết quả của nỗ lực xóa đói giảm nghèo trên quy mô lớn của chính phủ Trung Quốc nhưng có những nơi vẫn tiếp tục phải sống trong nghèo đói.
Thoát nghèo để tiến gần hơn với nước phát triển có lẽ vẫn còn một khoảng cách khá dài.
Bởi vì Trung Quốc bản thân nó đã là một quốc gia vô cùng rộng lớn, mỗi địa phương lại có một đặc trưng riêng nên việc đô thị hóa và phát triển kinh tế không đồng đều. Con đường trở thành một quốc gia phát triển có lẽ vẫn còn rất nhiều khó khăn.

Còn đây, tỉnh Tottori nơi thu nhập vẫn còn thấp, bạn sẽ không thể nhìn thấy hình ảnh cuộc sống nghèo đói ở đây. Nó giống như người làm công ăn lương khi về già muốn sống ở quê nhà được bao quanh bởi thiên nhiên.
